In fiber laser, pump and signal transmit through doped fiber, the pump energy is absorbed along with transforming into signal energy, but pump energy cannot be absorbed completely, there is always residual energy transmitted in cladding of DCF. This part of energy is no need and even dangerous for downstream components, with CPS it can effectively "strip" residual pump energy and also can strip some reflection signal which back fire into cladding, meantime keep the amplified signal unaffected
